Broken Vessels: How God Uses Our Cracks for His Glory
In a world obsessed with perfection, performance, and polished appearances, it feels almost unthinkable that God would delight in broken things. Yet that is the paradox of grace: the Almighty chooses chipped, bruised, and imperfect vessels to carry His glory. Maybe your cracks are not curses at all (maybe they are conduits of divine light).
In today’s Scriptural Arsenal for Daily Living, let’s discover how God transforms broken vessels into instruments of beauty, healing, and worship whilst listening to Broken Vessels by Hillsong.
We often believe that God wants the best version of us; the flawless, the polished, the “put-together.” But the Bible tells a different story: “We have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.” – 2 Corinthians 4:7
God does not hide His glory in golden ornaments or perfect vessels. He chooses fragile, flawed, human jars of clay. Why? So that no one confuses the power with the pot. The cracks in your life don’t disqualify you – they make room for His glory to shine through.
Examples of Broken Vessels in Scripture
Throughout Scripture, God consistently used broken people to fulfill His purposes:
- Moses was a fugitive with a speech problem, yet God used him to deliver Israel.
- David committed adultery, yet he became “a man after God’s own heart.”
- Rahab was a prostitute, yet she became part of the lineage of Christ.
- Peter denied Jesus three times, yet he became the rock on which the early church was built.
God doesn’t discard broken vessels – He redeems them.
One of the most powerful illustrations of brokenness becoming beauty is the story of the alabaster jar:
“While he was in Bethany… a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.” – Mark 14:3
Notice this: the jar had to be broken for the fragrance to be released. In the same way, your breaking may be the very thing that releases the fragrance of worship, love, and healing into the world.
Why God Uses Broken Vessels
- To Display His Grace
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9
Your weakness becomes the stage for His strength. - To Heal the Brokenhearted
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” – Psalm 147:3
God doesn’t just heal you; He uses your scars to bring healing to others. - To Point Back to Him
If we were flawless, the glory would be ours. In brokenness, all the glory goes back to God.
Practical Ways to Embrace Being a Broken Vessel
- Surrender Daily: Stop hiding your flaws; bring them before God in prayer.
- Serve from Your Scars: Use your testimony to encourage others walking similar roads.
- Stay in the Word: Let Scripture remind you of God’s strength in your weakness.
- Walk in Worship: Brokenness is not shame – it can be your sweetest offering.
So, if you’re feeling cracked and broken today, take heart: you are not disqualified – you are exactly who God uses. Like the alabaster jar, your breaking may release the sweetest fragrance of worship.
Let your cracks become the canvas of His glory. Let your wounds become wells of healing for others. You are chipped, scarred, imperfect… but carried by a perfect God. And that makes you a beautifully broken vessel, redeemed for His glory
