God’s Overflowing Goodness and Mercy
Wolverines are known for their incredible sense of smell, yet they have poor eyesight. I once heard that they can sometimes pass right by their prey without noticing, only to track it down later by following what their noses reveal.
It is not always a comforting thought to know that we are being followed. In today’s world, we often read of people who committed crimes years ago and are eventually tracked down through DNA evidence, their past sins catching up with them.
In my own life, I have found that as I grow older, the memory of failures and mistakes made long ago sometimes catches up with me, stirring an inward groan.
But as we look back more carefully, we see something far better. Day after day, and through every season of life, God’s goodness and mercy have followed us. And when at last we enter heaven, it will be with His goodness and kindness trailing behind us like the flowing train of a royal bride in all her splendour on her wedding day.
Recently, we were meditating on the familiar words of Psalm 23:6:
“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.“
In that moment, we sensed the Lord saying:
“Look, you are being followed.”
And this is what He speaks over His children:
My dear ones, you are Mine, and nothing can separate you from My tender care. I created you so that you might have fellowship with Me forever. The blood of atonement has set you apart; you are Mine, loved with an everlasting love. You shall walk before Me all your days, and at the last you shall be with Me forever. I delight in the joy and gladness of My children. I do not willingly afflict them; rather, in their affliction, I too am afflicted.
The things you suffer are working for you a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. I have set much good before you. I am your Protector, and I am your Deliverer. Do not let your heart be troubled, and do not be afraid. Instead, rejoice and fix your eyes on your reward. For you shall see My face and dwell with Me forever.
Never a day passes for you without being filled to overflowing with My goodness and mercy. Never a day goes by without Me loading you with the kisses of My love. You will never reach the end of My kindness toward you. Day after day, night after night, I surround you with My goodness and mercy. My love for you will never fade nor change. My love is set upon My dear ones, and it will accompany you all the way on your journey to heaven.
