My Fishless Night

“I put the net back into sea reluctantly, but Oh my God! I couldn’t bring out the net, as it was so heavy…”

Having toiled all night, done all I could, but nothing seems to be adding up, not even a glimpse of shrimps caught my sight as a fisherman. Tired and ready to go home, the nets need washing because it was full of mud from the fishless night of fishing, while washing the nets and the boat is parked and waiting to go home empty, here comes this stranger in my boat without even asking for permission jumped into the boat and he even asked me to move the boat back a bit so he could move a little away from the crowd he was about to teach. Awestruck, I did what he asked me without questioning.

To my amazement he started teaching the crowd on the other side, in my boat? I kept on looking, with loads of people happy listening to him. Here I stood tired, ready to go home at least if I had caught nothing all night, I should go home and have a rest. And here’s this stranger wasting my time. Thank goodness he ended his teachings. He must have taught for about an hour so, at last I can now go home. Then I heard my name, how did he know my name? Well it doesn’t matter, he must have heard someone call me before that’s what all fisher men do, we shout each other names loudly.

Here he Comes, my Strange Friend

Then this guy asked me to throw back my net into that same sea I had been all night. I am sure this guy didn’t know what he was talking about, I said I’ll try and I did try. I put the net back into sea reluctantly, but Oh my God! I couldn’t bring out the net, as it was so heavy and full of fishes, I yelled to my partners [whose names were James and John] to help. They did come to help. There you go, we eventually got the net full of fishes out of the sea and into the boat with our back broken, phew! Oh no!, the boat was sinking, the fishes were too many, now we have got to throw some fish back or else we would have sunk with the fishes. Here he comes, my strange friend and told me not to worry, I was not worried because we did not sink.

I am happy I allow the stranger to use my boat, one good turn deserves another, He gave me so many fishes in return. Thank God I allowed him. He must have deliberately stopped all the fishes from coming out that night so he could use the boat for its original purpose of men-fishing and not fish-fishing. That stranger is Jesus in case you’re wondering who on earth could have done that? He is the only one that can call unto those things which are not into existence, if only you would give Him a space in your life. “And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net”. (Luke 5:5).
