Most pet owners know that they receive love from their pets as well as giving it. I remember one lady describing to me how a baby had crawled too close to the fire, and her dog rushed forward and dragged it away to safety. But even where there is no long-term relationship, there can still be altruism and kindness. A dog was documented protecting an injured pigeon and staying with it until the bird recovered. Dolphins can be kind. They have been observed helping injured swimmers or surfers to shore and protecting human beings from sharks.
They have also been seen guiding stranded whales back to deeper water. In India, an elephant was seen gently using its trunk to lift a wounded dog out of a muddy ditch. Humpback whales were documented in a study carried out in 2016, and in 115 cases were seen to intervene in Orca attacks in order to rescue other fishy victims, 80% of whom were not other humpbacks. So, although nature can be horrific in cruelty, there is kindness out there as well.
We were meditating on 2 Samuel 9:3
The king asked, “Is there no one still alive from the house of Saul to whom I can show God’s kindness?” and we felt the Lord was saying:-
What kindness you have received from Me, and how My blessings have been poured down upon you! Blessings of guidance, of provision, of protection, blessings of love and relationships and family, blessings at home and blessings where you have travelled. Blessings of grace and salvation, and blessings of Christian leaders who have shared your journey. My blessings will continue because I am a kind-hearted God.
Out of the measure of health and prosperity that I have given you, you have many opportunities to show kindness to others. Be open then to the promptings of My Spirit and freely give because you have freely received. My kindness cannot be measured or weighed. It is beyond all things. Endeavour to be like Me in this – showing kindness wherever you go and blessing all you see.
For lack of kindness, the world faints. So be full of My kindness. Look to Me regarding thi,s and I will show you what to do and when to do it. Love My people and care for them. Bless people as they come across your path. Be full of My kindness in all its variety and depth. Cause people to feel loved and blessed by you.
