Many years ago we turned out of our bed for a couple of visitors. They were heavy people and one of the legs of the bed broke!
We set our friends minds at rest, assuring them that the leg had been wobbly for some months. I slipped a few volumes of an old encyclopaedia underneath the breakage to support the frame, and the bed was comfortable, and our guests were able to enjoy undisturbed rest. Those encyclopaedias remained in place for several years! I never did get round to reading them – but at least I was close to men of letters!
Human wisdom will never bring us to true rest. Human love can bring us closer. But true rest comes through the peace of God, based on being at peace with God.
We were meditating on Psalms 132:8-9, “Arise Lord and come to Your resting place…May Your priests be clothed with Your righteousness; may your faithful people sing for joy.”
And we felt God was saying:-
I have promised to make your heart My home, and indeed I do dwell within you by My Holy Spirit. Believe this with all your heart, and cleanse yourself accordingly. Let your heart be filled with the warmth of love and praise, let there be light that shines brightly within you putting every kind of darkness to flight. Learn to be actively conscious of Me throughout the day, and to think of Me in the watches of the night. It is because of My grace that you stand, and without Me you are nothing.
Yet in Me you have everything that you need, and the fullness of the Godhead dwells within you.
You have this treasure in earthen vessels indeed, but it is true treasure that is yours. The good news entrusted to you is mighty and powerful to change lives and to overthrow evil. Be confident in Me, and rely implicitly upon My word for it is faithful and true. Be filled with My love, be kind and generous in spirit. So shall your life be a blessing, and you shall inherit blessing. For I am your God and Saviour, and you are safe in the arms of My love.
Where I come, I sit in splendour. No anxiety or worry is about Me. I am never stressed. Righteousness and peace abound in My presence. One word from Me and the noise of the enemy is still and the power of My rule is felt. You are holy priests to Me, to minister to Me first and to wait in My presence to hear My word and then to go and minister to whom I send you.
Pursue righteousness and peace and My joy will overtake you and surround you all your days. Come and rest with Me from all anxiety and worry. Enter and live in My peace and know My power in your lives.
