There are moments in every believerโs journey when faith feels alive and vibrant. Prayer comes naturally, worship fills the heart with joy, and reading Scripture feels like hearing the voice of a close friend. But there are also seasons when that passion slowly fades. We still go to church, serve others, and call ourselves Christians, yet our relationship with Jesus can begin to feel like a routine rather than a personal relationship. The encouraging truth is that Jesus never stops pursuing us, and we can always return to Him.
Falling in love with Jesus again is not about manufacturing emotions or trying harder to be a โbetter Christian.โ As this misunderstanding can be lethal to the relationship of a believer, it begins with remembering who He is. Jesus is not simply a historical figure or a religious teacher; He is the Son of God who stepped into our broken world in need of restoration, carried our sins to the cross, and rose again so that we could have eternal life. His love for us has never changed and never will, even when our love for Him has grown cold.
One of the greatest barriers to intimacy with Christ is familiarity. We can become so used to hearing Bible stories and singing worship songs that we forget the wonder of the gospel. Returning to Jesus often starts with slowing down and being still. Read the Gospels as if you are meeting Him for the first time. Notice his compassion for the hurting, his patience with his disciples, his courage in the face of opposition, and his unwavering love displayed at Calvary. Ask God to help you see Jesus with fresh eyes, and an internal longing for his glory in your life
Prayer is another doorway back to intimacy. Sometimes we believe we need to impress God with our words before coming to Him, but Jesus simply invites us to be honest. Tell Him about your disappointments, your fears, your doubts, and your desire to know Him more deeply. A relationship grows through genuine conversation, and our relationship with Christ is no different. (Just talk to Him, that is what God really desires in the heart of a believer)
Love also grows through obedience. Jesus said, โIf you love me, keep my commands.โ Obedience is not about earning Godโs approval; it is the natural response to experiencing his grace. As we choose forgiveness over bitterness, generosity over selfishness, and faith over fear, our hearts become more aligned with His.
Community plays a vital role as well. Surrounding yourself with like-minded believers who genuinely love Jesus can reignite your own passion. Their testimonies, prayers, and encouragement remind us that God is still working today. Likewise, serving others often rekindles our appreciation for Christ, as we become His hands and feet to those in need.
There may be days when you do not feel close to God. Feelings come and go, but Godโs faithfulness does not. Love is sustained not only by emotion but by commitment. Continue to seek Him through Scripture, worship, prayer, and fellowship, trusting that He honours those who earnestly seek Him.
The beautiful reality of the Christian faith is that Jesus is always ready to welcome us back with open arms. Like the father in the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11โ32), He does not meet us with condemnation but with grace. Every day is an opportunity to begin again. Falling in love with Jesus again begins with returning to the One who has loved you faithfully from the very beginning. His love has never changed, never faded, and never failed. As we remember His sacrifice, meet His presence, and choose to walk with Him each day, our hearts are awakened once more. The fire that once seemed to fade begins to burn again, not because Jesus ever moved away, but because we have chosen to draw near to Him.
โDraw near to God, and He will draw near to you.โ โ James 4:8

Lord Jesus, help me not only to know about You, but to truly know You. Draw my heart closer to Yours. Renew my love, restore my joy, and rekindle the fire that first led me to You. Teach me to seek You above everything else, to delight in Your presence, and to fall deeper in love with You each day. Amen.
