Many times we think that the amount of hard work and effort that we put into our daily endeavours has brought us the results that we have today. Sometimes we are really tired, and we believe it’s because we have worked really hard, and this is taking a toll on our health. Other times we feel so lonely and isolated that we think we are alone in the battle of life and destiny.
BUT HERE ARE THE BIG QUESTIONS TO ASK
1. When we feel alone, are we alone?
2. Looking at all our accomplishments today, have we been able to achieve all that by ourselves without the hand of God in them?
3. Are we alive today because we have been so very careful and provided good security for ourselves?
Psalms 124:1-8 NKJV
[1] โIf it had not been the Lord who was on our side,โ Let Israel now sayโ [2] โIf it had not been the Lord who was on our side, When men rose up against us, [3] Then they would have swallowed us alive, When their wrath was kindled against us; [4] Then the waters would have overwhelmed us, The stream would have gone over our soul; [5] Then the swollen waters Would have gone over our soul.โ [6] Blessed be the Lord, Who has not given us as prey to their teeth. [7] Our soul has escaped as a bird from the snare of the fowlers; The snare is broken, and we have escaped. [8] Our help is in the name of the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.
In Psalm 124, David acknowledged God at every point in his life and in the journey of the house of Israel. God has been the One who has shielded His people because they believed that He was on their side. When war arose against them from time to time, He fought for them. Even in the deep red sea, God allowed them to walk, and on dry ground and in this same red sea, the Egyptians perished. We must recognise that God has been on our side and has kept us safe. He has been the One behind us, and He is the source of the strength through which we have been able to achieve all that we have today. God has helped us and brought us to where we are today.
Here is a good lesson from the psalmist today because we have a lot of challenges, trials and tribulations which would have overwhelmed us. In verse 4 of psalm 124, the Bible recorded that the waters would have overwhelmed us, but they never did because God was with us. Regardless of whatever we are going through, He will never leave us nor forsake us. He is always on our side, and if waters come, they will not overwhelm us, and if fire comes, it will not burn us. In the book of Daniel, the three Hebrew boys were thrown into the furnace. They were not burnt; even their clothes did not smell of fire because God was with them.
God will not leave us in the hands of our enemy, not because of us but for His name to be glorified. Verse 6 of 124 says, Blessed be the lord who has not given us as prey to their teeth. He will not allow us to be drowned in any satanic challenge; not because of anything but because of His name. He wants to be glorified of our lives, as we are His possession, and He will look after us, and that’s why He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus, to give His blood for the remission of our sins so that we can be saved.
Now there was a song of confirmation of escape in verse 7 to 8 of Psalm 124, โฆsoul has escaped as the bird from the snare of the Fowlers, snare is broken, and we have escaped. That must be the mentality of every believer; an escape because Christ has died for us and we have escaped from every curse of intimidation, the law, death and fear. We have escaped: it’s a song that we must sing every time, and as we sing this song, we are acknowledging the unseen hands of God at work in our lives and circumstances. Though we cannot physically see these unseen hands, we see their acts at work in and through us.
