[13] Oh, that my people would listen to me! Oh, that Israel would follow me, walking in my paths! [14] How quickly I would then subdue their enemies! How soon my hands would be upon their foes!
Our world is so noisy with many distractions everywhere. With millions of data points running through our systems every day, there is a very high likelihood that we are distracted from the sound of heaven by the voice of the Holy Spirit. And most of the time, because of the noise, we forget where we are coming from. God saved us from bondage- the bondage of sin and death which the devil has put mankind in- but if we have to walk in freedom and Liberty through the faith that we have in Christ, we must be established in a place of listening to Him.
Psalms 81:10-14 NLT
[10] For it was I, the Lord your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it with good things. [11] “But no, my people wouldn’t listen. Israel did not want me around. [12] So I let them follow their own stubborn desires, living according to their own ideas. [13] Oh, that my people would listen to me! Oh, that Israel would follow me, walking in my paths! [14] How quickly I would then subdue their enemies! How soon my hands would be upon their foes!
Listening to God requires full attention so that we get all the details of what He is asking us to do; how He is asking us to do things, where He wants us to go and with whom He wants us to relate, just for His glory and for His name to be lifted on the Earth.
Our testimony is that we have been set free because Christ died for us and redeemed us from all the causes of law, death and sin, but for us to walk in sustainability of this reality, we must give our full attention to God while He speaks to us, and we must listen.
The Israelites lived by their own ideas and stubborn desires, according to their own will; they did all of these, missing the point. They did not recognise God as the author and finisher of our faith, the custodian of the purpose that we’re living for and our eternal source. David recommended that we listen to Him. He says in verse 13 that Israel will follow me and walk in my paths, and God promises that as we walk in His path and listen to Him, He will quickly subdue every enemy before us. There are so many enemies of our souls and minds and our spirit, and we are only struggling these days because we have turned away from God, and we are no longer listening to the gentle voice of the Holy Spirit living in us. If we are intentionally listening to Him, then we can begin to walk in the reality of His agenda for us.
He did not stop at saying that He will subdue our enemies before us! He also said He will put our enemies upon their toes, meaning He will bring trouble and destruction upon them. The truth is that the moment we listen to God and live according to His will and plan for us, our enemy becomes His enemy; our adversaries become His adversaries, and we can begin to work in freedom because He is fighting for us everywhere we turn to, and in everything that we do, and in every dealing that we have with others.
