Who Is On Your Speed Dial?

Today’s Scriptural Arsenal is best enjoyed whilst listening to the song “Jesus on the Mainline” by Gaither Vocal Band

Whenever I am in need or faced with a challenge, I have a set of people on my speed dial: my fiancée, younger brothers, my dad, my godmother, my inner circle friends, and my aunt. It is usually very sure that whenever I call any one of them, they will heed my requests or at least give me a listening ear. Knowing this gives me confidence that I have people who always got my back. But then, they are humans and have their failings.

Despite knowing this, I sometimes feel disappointed if they couldn’t be of help or were not available in my time of need. I feel rage because the people I have on my speed dial or count on couldn’t be of assistance. This was when I realized I needed a higher power who would always be available to pick my call: a God that does not sleep nor slumber (Psalms 121: 3-4). Maybe you are like me; that prioritizes placing humans other than God on speed dial, then this is for you.

We all face challenges that can leave us feeling lost and alone. Turning to friends, family, or romantic relationships for help is easy. Still, sometimes these sources of support may not be enough. In such times, it is vital to seek a higher power, regardless of one’s faith.

The story of David in Psalms 28:1-9 is a beautiful example of seeking help from a higher power. David was a man who faced many challenges and struggles throughout his life, but he never lost hope because he knew that God was with him.

David knew that he could always turn to God for guidance and support. He trusted that God would be with him amid his struggles and was never afraid to ask for help. In the Psalm, David cries out to God for help and guidance, acknowledging that God is his rock and the one he can turn to for help.

David’s trust in God is something that can resonate with both Christians and non-Christians. In times of hardship, looking for someone to turn to for comfort and guidance is natural. And that person should be God because he cares and can help.

As human beings, we all face challenges in life that can be overwhelming. These challenges can leave us feeling lost and alone, whether it’s financial troubles, relationship problems, or health issues. In such times, it’s essential to seek help and guidance from a higher power, regardless of one’s faith, and that higher power is God.

We should also be honest about our situation and seek support from others. We should always be bold and ask for help from friends, family, or professionals. Sometimes, talking to someone impartial can help gain a fresh perspective. Seeking help from others is not a sign of weakness but rather a sign of strength and courage.

In conclusion, the story of David in Psalms 28:1-9 teaches us that seeking help from a higher power is essential when facing challenges in life. It also reminds us that we should be honest about our situation and seek support from others. And to know that we can call on human assistance after talking to God.
