It was Saturday when all good electricians take a well-deserved break. Suddenly, we were without power in our ring circuit, though the lights were still working. Our son-in-law arrived, and with his help we were able to get through the weekend festooned with cables.
Our electrician came as soon as he could. Eventually he found that a cable serving an outside socket on the balcony had perished in about four places, the worst being a burnout. More amazingly still, when the cable was originally installed one of the fixing screws had penetrated the cable! This meant that for 20 years a danger had lurked unseen, hidden away in the middle of a brick wall.
When I began my ministry, it seemed as though there had been a power failure in the churches. Probably it was due to the slaughter of so many godly young people in the war, which had not long before come to an end. However, we have lived to bear witness to the mighty power of the Gospel and the reality of the Holy Spirit. Truly He is always faithful.
Margaret & I were meditating on 1 Kings 8:15:
“Then he said: ‘Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, who with his own hand has fulfilled what he promised …” and we felt the Lord was saying:-
I come to you with saving power, and my goodness and mercy never fail. I am true to my word, and although sometimes there is delay in fulfilment, I reward the faith of those who persevere to the end. What I have promised I will fulfil. Look forward with joy to the days that are to come, and to the new heavens and the new earth which are your reward and inheritance. Then truly you will cross the Jordan and enter the true land of promise where there is no longer an enemy to fight and overcome, but where all is love, joy and peace.
There is life full of perfect satisfaction with no hint of disappointment or of foolish overindulgence. You will find that my word is true indeed and that I have done all things well. Even now enter into your promised rest and enjoy the fullness of the blessings which are yours today. Only believe, and you will see greater things than you have seen as yet, for I am the God of wonders, and rich rewards are in my hand for those who pursue my love and enter in to enjoy its fullness.
Come to me each day and feast at my table with great delight, for I take pleasure in your company and reward your faith. I am a promise-keeping God, what I say I do and what I promise comes into being at the time appointed. I never fail in keeping that which I have promised. Love, my promises; let them fill your heart with joy and expectation.
Pray them into being, meditate on them, praise, and thank me for them and live your lives in the good of them, let your hearts be cheered by them, and your lives strengthened as you dwell upon them. Be assured by the certainty that is contained in every one, and wait with patience and good cheer for their fulfilment, for each one will be fulfilled and your eyes will see and your hearts will rejoice with overflowing joy and gratitude.
