The unfolding of a series of natural disasters around the globe has brought me to an unrelenting state of philosophical reactions towards some certain aspects of the scripture. As many have done, I have also tried to attribute these unpleasant happenings to some scientific findings and conclusions, but the word of God is sharper than a two-edged sword, which cannot be toyed with, regardless of how we try to manipulate it. Is it global warming?  The scripture states: “And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.” (Luke 21:25-26).

According to a recent story published by the Guardian online, firefighter Jeremy Stoke tried helping residents evacuate from the northern California city of Redding, when the wildfire threatening their neighbourhood arrived suddenly in an apocalyptic form: a riot of wind and flame known as a “firenado”.

Stoke’s death was one of five firefighters, in addition to a contract bulldozer operator and an engineer, who have died fighting California wildfires in the last couple of months, setting a tragic record even in a state where this beast of a natural disaster has become a nightmare. In reference to the report released by the California Fire Foundation, this is the first time since record-keeping began 18 years ago, that a consistently higher number of casualties have been recorded in so short a span of time. “For us, it’s been pretty shocking,” said Cliff Allen, who served as a firefighter for 31 years before he became president of Cal Fire Local 2881, a major state firefighters’ union in the US.

Likewise in England and Wales, nearly 700 more deaths than normal were recorded during the 15-day peak of the heat-wave in June and July 2018, according to official data. Authorities said that an increase in deaths is fully expected during heat-waves, but they advised that the provisional data requires further analysis to determine if the higher death is statistically significant for the summer season. According to Dr. Adrian, Boyle, “The heat-wave will have been associated with a number of excess deaths,” He is of the Royal College of Emergency.

Is the End Here?

According to the revelations God gave to John as recorded in the book of Revelations, there would be catastrophic occurrences. These happenings are a reflection of the signs of end time. Whether you believe it or not, the end is here. “In the same hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell. In the earthquake seven thousand people were killed, and the rest were afraid and gave glory to the God of heaven.” (Revelation 11:13).

The scripture has confirmed that natural disasters would grow in frequency and intensity, as the end time is here—to shake people out of their complacency and lead them to seek God. “…And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.” (Matthew 24:7).

The Only Way Out

Now is the time to gain a clearer understanding of what is required to prepare for the second coming of Christ. The signs of end time are already here and the only way out is to have access to the way out of the eternal damnation which will come upon the unprepared occupants of the earth. “Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:5-6). In Christ alone is peace now and the eternal life and knowing Him brings us into the everlasting security, joy and fulfilment. “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” (John 17:3).
